Kay and I came together in March 2022 to shoot this set of her in bodypaint. Our main objective: Paint her all white, then use various lighting to highlight her powerful physique with deep, strong shadows. Kay’s job has her working outdoors, making tan lines inevitable; she also has a number of prominent tattoos. If you know me, you know I love tattoos, but in wanting to highlight her muscular frame, I needed to temporarily remove potential distractions so the focus could remain where we wanted it: on her.
Our second objective: If we had time after shooting with the white paint, I’d attempt a Jackson Pollock-ish type painting using primary colors and make her body the exact opposite: COMPLETELY distracting with random pours of paint.
As you can tell from the nine pics included here, our main objective was very successful, to the point that we both were looking at the pics going, “Daannngggg!” Our secondary objective wasn’t quite as successful: I watered down the paint too much and realized it within two pours – it was splattering everywhere. Rather than try to fix it with additional paint, I just ran with what I had and did an aggressive splatter over her arms, torso, and upper legs.
After a little bit of shooting with the color paint, Kay mixed it all together, made some purple painty goodness, and then she hit the tub in the backyard, met rubber ducky, and got clean.
Five of these are Kay’s favorites, four of them are mine. You’ll see more from this shoot once the film gets developed and scanned!
